Homeopathy is a system of health care, which is based on the “Way of similars.” It is an ancient form of treatment first used by Hippocrates the father of modern medicine, who realised that there were 2 ways of treating ill health, the way of opposites and the way of similars. Modern day homeopathy has its roots in the 18th century when it was revived by a German doctor called Samuel Hahnemann.

In conventional medicine (based on Hippocrates “way of opposites”) medicines are used which counteract symptoms. For instance if a person suffers from insomnia the conventional treatment would be to give a drug which induces artificial sleep. Homeopathic treatment would involve giving a minute dose of a substance such as coffee, which in larger doses would cause sleeplessness. Perhaps surprisingly this would enable the person to sleep naturally.

Remedies work by stimulating your bodies natural ability to heal itself. Much ill health is caused by an  imbalance within the system and remedies help to re establish balance. Good homeopathic treatment strengthens the body so that you become more resistant to ill health.

Homeopathic remedies are minute doses of substances which in large doses would cause symptoms in a healthy person. They are prepared in a special way, which includes successive dilutions and shaking.
Many of the remedies are from plant sources, some from minerals and some from animal sources.
Remedies are only ever tested on healthy human subjects. Remedies are usually given in tablet form and they are dissolved under the tongue.
