What is therapy for?

Sometimes it helps to talk to someone in confidence. Counselling and therapy are for anyone who wants some space to talk and be heard.

General self-development

Some people use therapy for self-development. They might use it to increase their self-awareness, to make decisions or to build self-confidence.

Coping with life

Some use therapy at times when they feel unable to cope. They may feel depressed and anxious, alone and challenged by life's circumstances. Memories of the past, painful events in the present or worries about the future may stop them enjoying life, or achieving what they want to.

Feelings of anxiety or foreboding

Some people experience feelings of anxiety or foreboding, which interfere with
their enjoyment of life or their ability to work or socialise.

What happens

Psychotherapy gives you an opportunity to share your problems in confidence with someone trained in listening and interpreting your experience. It can help you to understand how past experience and current behaviour may be linked, and can lead to new ways of approaching life.

It will provide you with a safe, non-judgmental and confidential environment to explore thoughts and feelings about yourself and your relationships with others, and may help you to make significant changes in your life.

You may wish to have short-term or long-term therapy; both are catered for at the clinic.

Sessions usually take place once weekly and last 50 minute per session. More frequent sessions may also be possible.
